Most-read news items from December included first surgical uses for devices, leadership changes, FDA approvals, and more. 

The Treace SpeedPlate MircoQuad implant was used in its first successful procedures. The implant expands on the SpeedPlate’s broad utility and features multiple fixation points on each side of the joint to deliver dynamic compression, with rotational stability through a once-inch incision.

The NextAR surgical application from Medacta was used in its first anatomic shoulder replacement procedure in the US. NextAR was used in combination with the Medacta Shoulder System and leverages augmented reality to assist trained surgeons in accurately placing shoulder prostheses while respecting each patient’s anatomy.

Former Stryker VP, Lane Major was appointed CEO of Zavation. Major has over 20 years of experience and succeeds Zavation founder Jeffery Johnson, who will continue to support the company as executive chairman of the board.

Paragon 28 increased the size of its board of directors by adding Dave Demski as an independent director for the company. Demski was most recently president and CEO of Globus Medical from August 2017 to April 2022. 

Smith+Nephew expanded its AETOS Shoulder System with newly FDA 510(k) cleared AETOS Stemless. Zimmer Biomet also gained FDA clearance for its Persona SoluTion porous plasma spray (PPS) femur.
